City of Toronto and partners to launch revitalized Regent Park ice rink tomorrow
City Councillor Pam McConnell (Ward 28 Toronto Centre-Rosedale) will join partners MLSE Foundation, Hockey Canada Foundation, Toronto Community Housing and The Daniels Corporation, along with a Regent Park youth representative and members of the Ward 28 community, to celebrate the opening of the revitalized ice rink in Regent Park.
Date: Saturday, January 3
Time: 10 a.m. to early afternoon - remarks at 11:15 a.m.
Location: Regent Park Athletic Grounds, Regent Park South Artificial Ice Rink, 480 Shuter St. (north of Queen Street East, east of River Street)
The event will include a Maple Leafs learn-to-skate clinic, a ceremonial puck drop, a community skate and an autograph-signing session with Toronto Maple Leafs alumni and Hockey Canada alumni.
Detailed schedule for the morning
10 to 11 a.m.: Learn-to-skate clinic led by Toronto Maple Leafs hockey development coaches
11:15 a.m.: remarks
11:45 a.m.: ceremonial puck drop
11:50 a.m.: start of community skate and autograph signing with Toronto Maple Leafs alumni and Hockey Canada alumni
Improvements to the rink include new lighting, dasherboards and fencing. The adjacent fieldhouse received a new roof, windows and doors, a renovated warming/change area, two accessible washrooms and a staff area with storage space.
The rink is the first component of the Regent Park Athletic Grounds – a state-of-the-art sports facility currently being built and slated for completion next fall. In addition to the rink, the athletic grounds will feature a basketball court, a combination soccer field/cricket pitch and a running track.
