On May 18, 2015, the Toronto Police Service will begin a pilot project to evaluate the use of body-worn cameras. Approximately 100 frontline police officers will wear the cameras while performing their regular duties.
As part of the evaluation, the Service is asking the community to tell us how they feel about officers wearing cameras while performing their duties.
Over the next few weeks, over 20,000 survey packages will be delivered by auxiliary police officers to randomly selected homes and businesses, mostly in the east end of the city. The survey package will include an information sheet about the project, a one-page survey and a business return envelope.
At the end of the pilot project, we will ask the community again for their thoughts and feelings about officers wearing cameras in consideration of how best to move forward with the project.
