On Friday, August 25, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., police received a report of a fail to remain personal injury collision involving a motorcycle and a cyclist travelling eastbound on Dundas Street East at River Street.

It is reported that:

• a black/silver motorcycle, with operator wearing a yellow flip shield helmet, was eastbound in the bike lanes along Dundas Street East
• the motorcycle hit a cyclist in the bike lane
• the cyclist sustained serious injuries
• the motorcycle fled the scene eastbound from River Street

An image has been released.

The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services.

Police are asking local residents, businesses and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

• she was transported to hospital with serious injuries
• she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in a shooting investigation.

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., police responded to a shooting call in The Esplande and Princess Street area.

It is reported that:

• Suspects in a vehicle pulled into an underground parking garage and discharged a firearm multiple times striking 2 adults and a child that were in their vehicle
• The suspects fled in a grey 2019 Honda Civic that was reported stolen in Brampton on July 11, 2023
• The vehicle was recovered on Monday, August 14, 2023.
• Sometime after the vehicle was stolen the suspect(s) removed the spoiler from the rear of the vehicle and the mounting bolts for the spoiler were visible.

There is no suspect descriptions at this time.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on this shooting or this vehicle to contact police.

September is here and that means ‘Back to School’ for thousands of Toronto students after the summer break.  It also means regular traffic volumes return to our roadways, as well as an increase in pedestrian traffic as kids commute to and from school. Toronto Police Service is conducting a traffic safety campaign from Monday, September 4, to Sunday, September 10, 2023, coinciding with the first week of school.

Members of TPS Traffic Services along with the City of Toronto and the Toronto District Catholic School Board  kicked off the campain this morning at St. Aiden Catholic Elementary School in Scarborough.

All road users should expect increased traffic throughout Toronto, but specifically within school and residential zones.  It is paramount that drivers consider the safety of  school children, pedestrians, and cyclists, when travelling on our roads.

"Children are among the most vulnerable road users.  Whether they are walking, cycling, or riding the school bus, it’s imperative we all do our part to ensure they arrive to school and return home to their loved ones safely," said Traffic Services Inspector Matt Moyer. "All road users are reminded to stay focused and follow the rules of the road. Road safety is a shared responsibility and we all have a role to play."

With emphasis on enforcement, education, and community engagement, officers will be looking out for drivers who speed, drive aggressively, drive distracted or impaired. Officers will also be in school zones targeting those who are parked illegally or vehicles potentially putting others at risk. Often, these behaviours lead to frustration, congestion and an unsafe environment for all road users.

The campaign also ties in with Toronto's Vision Zero Road Safety Plan which sees the Service, the City of Toronto and other community partners working together to achieve zero deaths on our roads.

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, the Toronto Police Service, Rexall Pharmacy and Drug Free Kids Canada are co-hosting a Medication Take Back Awareness Day at three locations in Toronto:

• 901 Eglinton Avenue West (media location)
• 474 Spadina Avenue
• 539 Parliament Street

Rexall Pharmacy offers a complimentary year-round Medication Take Back service providing a safeguard against medication misuse and supporting safer communities. Members of the community are encouraged to drop off all old and/or expired prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, and natural health products at any Rexall Pharmacy for safe disposal. All returns are accepted, even if the medication was not initially purchased at Rexall.

Pharmacists and representatives from Rexall, along with the Toronto Police Service, will be available to speak with the media about the Medication Tack Back initiative and the importance of returning unused medication to avoid accidents and misuse, including the risk of drug overdose at 901 Eglinton Avenue West.

Free Naloxone kits will be provided at each location.

This is also an important reminder of the ongoing opioid crisis in Toronto and around the country, and the many lives that have been lost. The rate of non-fatal and fatal opioid poisonings are increasing. Prevention, and being prepared for a potential overdose with lifesaving tools like Naloxone, is key and can save lives.

Know the signs of an overdose

The following signs may indicate that a person is experiencing an overdose:

• Can’t wake the person up 
• Breathing is very slow, erratic or has stopped
• Deep snoring or gurgling sounds
• Fingernails or lips are blue or purple
• Body is very limp

On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at approximately 12:30 p.m., police responded to an unknown trouble in the Shuter Street and Sherbourne Street area.

It is alleged that:

• following an altercation a female victim was seriously injured
• life saving measures were commenced on scene, and the victim was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries
• on Friday, August 25, 2023, the victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at hospital.  

The victim has been identified as Fadumo Hassan, 29, of no fixed address.

Mireille Pardieu, 27, of no fixed address, has been arrested and charged with:

1. Second Degree Murder

She is scheduled to appear in court at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at 9 a.m., in room 202.

Police believe there are numerous witnesses to this incident. Anyone who was in the area of Shuter Street and Sherbourne Street on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at approximately 12:15 p.m., and observed any type of altercation, is asked to contact investigators.

On Sunday, August 13, 2023, at approximately 5 p.m., officers attended a call for a person with a gun in the Yonge Street and Adelaide Street East area.

• the suspect approached the victim and his friend who were sitting on a bench
• the suspect indicated that he had a firearm in his bag and grabbed a gold chain from around the victim's neck, ripping it off
• the suspect then fled the area on foot

• the male victim was in an altercation with another man
• the victim was chased onto Sherbourne Street by the suspect, where he fell to the ground
• the suspect continued to attack the victim while he lay on the street
• the victim was then struck by a passing vehicle
• the victim was located in the middle of Sherbourne Street by first responders
• the victim was assessed by paramedics and declared deceased at the scene

The victim has been identified as Douglas James MacDonald, 54, of Toronto.

Wenzile Ndlangamandla, 19, of Toronto, was charged with:

Clean out your medication cabinet!

It is important to check your medicine cabinet and home regularly for medications that are expired or no longer needed, and safely dispose of them. Medications can be accidentally used or intentionally misused, which can put the ones you love and others in your home, including pets and children, at risk. To avoid accidents and misuse, remember to keep all medications out of reach in a non-accessible place.

Additionally, medications which have passed their expiration date, including over-the-counter products, vitamins and minerals, may start to degrade and become less effective. Some expired medications can also become dangerous as they degrade so it is best to dispose of them right away.

Return medications to your pharmacist

One of the easiest, convenient, and safest ways to dispose of your unwanted medication is to bring them to your local pharmacy, for safe disposal of all your old, unused and/or expired medications at no cost to you! Flushing drugs down the toilet or throwing them in the garbage is bad for the environment and unsafe. 

What and How to return items:

·         All prescription medications such as ointments, tablets and capsules, over-the-counter products such as cough syrup, pain medications,

·         Natural health products such as vitamins and supplements, inhalers and devices such as epinephrine auto injectors, and needles or sharps in appropriate disposal containers. For your safety and the safety pharmacy staff, needles and sharps will only be accepted in appropriate sharps containers, which you can obtain from your pharmacy. Be sure to remove all tablets, pills & capsules from their packaging prior to bringing to the pharmacy for disposal.

Drug Over-Dose Awareness Day

On August 31^st, members of the Toronto Police Service, Rexall Pharmacy and Drug-Free Kids Canada will be at three Rexall Pharmacy locations between 10am-2pm to start the conversation about safe disposal of medications and drug over-dose awareness. Free Naloxone kits will also be handed out.

The vehicle was a white, four door sedan. The driver of this vehicle is considered a witness to the investigation and police are encouraging them to come forward and contact police.

The man is described as male, Black, average build, with mid length black hair in dreadlocks or twists. He was last seen wearing a black short sleeved shirt, green hoodie with a camouflage pattern on the hood, black jeans with small tears on the front of both legs, and black shoes.

The suspect fled on a bicycle northbound on Sherbourne Street.

The Toronto Police Service, in partnership with Rexall Pharmacy Group and Drug Free Kids (DFK) Canada are recognizing National Drug Drop-Off Month throughout August and International Overdose Awareness Day, taking place on August 31.

This collaboration aims to raise awareness about the importance of safely disposing medication that is old, expired or no longer needed to prevent them from falling into the wrong hands or being misused within the community.

To further raise awareness of safe drug disposal within the community, the partners will host a Medication Take Back Awareness Day at three Rexall Pharmacy locations in Toronto on August 31, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The participating locations are:

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of a telephone scam involving the impersonation of Toronto police officers. The scam is largely occurring in Alberta and Saskatchewan. 

There have been several instances over the last few weeks where members of the public have received telephone calls from individuals who identify themselves as police officers from the Toronto Police Service (TPS).

It is reported that:

• a suspect calls a resident by telephone stating that they are a police officer
• the suspect uses the name of a real officer whose name and number is posted on the TPS website
• if questioned, the suspect tells the person they can confirm the information by visiting the TPS website
• the suspect informs the person that copies of their identification have been located during an investigation, and asks them to confirm that they are not involved
• the suspect requests a video call to see the person and confirm their identity
• the suspect requests the person provide their identification by showing government-issued ID
• it is believed the suspect is obtaining the victim's ID for fraudulent purposes

The Toronto Police Service is reminding the public that police officers will not demand your identification over a video call. A local police service would visit in person to confirm your identity and involvement in an investigation.

Police will never request cash, crypto-currency, valuables or any form of payment during an investigation.

 The Toronto Police Service is advising the public of an arrest made in two sexual assault investigations.

On Monday, June 26, 2023, at approximately 1 a.m., police responded to a call for a sexual assault in the Ontario Street and Dundas Street East area.

It is alleged that:

• a victim was walking in the area
• the victim was approached by the man, who attempted to engage her in conversation
• the victim then left and continued walking home when she was attacked by the man
• the victim was knocked to the ground, dragged into an alleyway and sexually assaulted
• the assault was interrupted by a concerned citizen
• the man then fled the area

On Sunday, July 23, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers responded to a call for a sexual assault in the Parliament Street and Dundas Street East area.

It is alleged that:

• the victim was approached by a man not known to her 
• the man followed the victim into an alleyway and sexually assaulted her

On Friday, August 4, 2023, Shukta Omotola Alaka, 23, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1.  two counts of Sexual Assault With Choking
2. Overcome Resistance To Offence/Attempt Choking

He was scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, in room 106, at 10 a.m.

Investigators believe there may be more victims.
