On Friday, August 25, 2023, at approximately 11:45 p.m., police received a report of a fail to remain personal injury collision involving a motorcycle and a cyclist travelling eastbound on Dundas Street East at River Street.

It is reported that:

• a black/silver motorcycle, with operator wearing a yellow flip shield helmet, was eastbound in the bike lanes along Dundas Street East
• the motorcycle hit a cyclist in the bike lane
• the cyclist sustained serious injuries
• the motorcycle fled the scene eastbound from River Street

An image has been released.

The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services.

Police are asking local residents, businesses and drivers, who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident, to contact investigators.

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of a homicide investigation.

On Saturday, September 9, 2023 at approximately 4:40 p.m., police responded to a call for an unknown trouble in the Seaton Street and Callaghan Lane area.

It is reported that:

• a woman was in distress
• officers located a woman with stab wounds
• she was transported to hospital with serious injuries
• she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased

The investigation remains ongoing.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in a shooting investigation.

On Saturday, August 12, 2023, at approximately 6 p.m., police responded to a shooting call in The Esplande and Princess Street area.

It is reported that:

• Suspects in a vehicle pulled into an underground parking garage and discharged a firearm multiple times striking 2 adults and a child that were in their vehicle
• The suspects fled in a grey 2019 Honda Civic that was reported stolen in Brampton on July 11, 2023
• The vehicle was recovered on Monday, August 14, 2023.
• Sometime after the vehicle was stolen the suspect(s) removed the spoiler from the rear of the vehicle and the mounting bolts for the spoiler were visible.

There is no suspect descriptions at this time.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on this shooting or this vehicle to contact police.

Images of the vehicle have been released.

The 13th annual Constantine Yorkville 5 KM Run is taking place on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at 9:00 a.m.

This is a community race with approximately 1,200 participants.

Road closures: 

Formation Area:   6:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Dispersal Area:    6:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Race Route:        8:45 to 11:00 a.m.

The race route is as follows:

Formation Area: Bay Street  from Davenport Road to Yorkville Avenue (all southbound lanes)

Dispersal Area: Davenport Road from Belmont Street to Bay Street (all eastbound lanes)

Start Line: Bay Street from Davenport to Cumberland (full road)

Southbound: Bay Street from Cumberland to Dundas Street (southbound lanes)

Westbound: Elm Street (full road)

Northbound: University Avenue (all northbound lanes)

Northbound: Queens Park/Queens Park Cres (eastside) (all northbound lanes)

Northbound: Avenue Road (all northbound lanes)

Eastbound to Southbound: Davenport Road from Avenue to Belmont Street (all eastbound lanes)

Motorists can expect delays in the area. The TTC will experience delays and be re-routed around the area. The race will take place regardless of weather conditions.

September is here and that means ‘Back to School’ for thousands of Toronto students after the summer break.  It also means regular traffic volumes return to our roadways, as well as an increase in pedestrian traffic as kids commute to and from school. Toronto Police Service is conducting a traffic safety campaign from Monday, September 4, to Sunday, September 10, 2023, coinciding with the first week of school.

Members of TPS Traffic Services along with the City of Toronto and the Toronto District Catholic School Board  kicked off the campain this morning at St. Aiden Catholic Elementary School in Scarborough.

All road users should expect increased traffic throughout Toronto, but specifically within school and residential zones.  It is paramount that drivers consider the safety of  school children, pedestrians, and cyclists, when travelling on our roads.

"Children are among the most vulnerable road users.  Whether they are walking, cycling, or riding the school bus, it’s imperative we all do our part to ensure they arrive to school and return home to their loved ones safely," said Traffic Services Inspector Matt Moyer. "All road users are reminded to stay focused and follow the rules of the road. Road safety is a shared responsibility and we all have a role to play."

With emphasis on enforcement, education, and community engagement, officers will be looking out for drivers who speed, drive aggressively, drive distracted or impaired. Officers will also be in school zones targeting those who are parked illegally or vehicles potentially putting others at risk. Often, these behaviours lead to frustration, congestion and an unsafe environment for all road users.

The campaign also ties in with Toronto's Vision Zero Road Safety Plan which sees the Service, the City of Toronto and other community partners working together to achieve zero deaths on our roads.
