Community safety seminars: Knowledge is Power

On July 30th 2014 the Policing Literacy Initiative (PLI) in collaboration with the Toronto Youth Cabinet's Community Safety Working Group will launch a series of community safety seminars titled Knowledge is Power. Based on feedback from the PLI community forum we have been encouraged to continue to engage youth in the conversation regarding police and community relations. The Knowledge is Power Seminar Series will be themed around informing, discussing and identifying better methods to build police-community relations. Seminar topics are designed to engage young people in conversations that help them gain a better understanding of policing and community safety issues in our city.

Seminars will target 20-25 youth (ages of 16-24yrs) from communities all across the City to be a part of these discussions. Our goal is to document the concerns of young people throughout the seminar series and present them as a community safety issue in this year's municipal election. The Knowledge Is Power Seminar Series will be held at Toronto City Hall 100 Queen St West on the following dates: Wednesday July 30th Wednesday Aug 6th,Wednesday Aug 13th   and . Wednesday Aug 20th  Youth advisory, resident and parent groups are encouraged to send a representative. Refreshments and TTC tokens will be available. Seminars may be videotaped for a culminating piece.

Seminar registration will be available on line at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/knowledge-is-power-summer-seminar-series-tickets-12304253353. See attached flyer to share with your networks.

Registration will close on Tuesday July 29th at 6pm.

12 seminars spots will be reserved for youth from Toronto's neighborhood improvement areas.

All the best,
