The Toronto Police Service would like to provide some winter driving tips.

The forecast for Friday, December 23 and Saturday, December 24, 2022, is anticipating blowing snow and flash freezing, resulting in icy and slippery surfaces, and reduced visibility. To ensure you are prepared, here are a few reminders from the Toronto Police Service:

• avoid any unnecessary trips if possible
• if you do need to drive, plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination
• slow down and leave more space in between vehicles (driving slower will allow for more reaction time and reduces stopping distance)
• look beyond where you are travelling
• use your mirrors and be aware of your surroundings, including other vehicles and pedestrians
• ensure all snow is cleared off your vehicle prior to leaving your destination. It is important to clear your windshield, but also the roof and remainder of your vehicle
• use your full headlight system in order to increase visibility to others
• tires: whether you have winter, snow or all season tires, ensure they are in good condition and properly inflated
• ensure your windshield wipers are working and washer fluid is topped up
• if you are involved in a collision, or break down, ensure your four-way flashers are on, remain in your vehicle, and contact police for assistance

It is advisable that the public continues to monitor the changing environmental conditions, and continually evaluate the need for driving.

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on two Assault with a Weapon investigations.

On Friday, December 9, 2022 at 7:30 a.m., police received a call for a stabbing in the Dundas Street East and Victoria Street area. 

It is alleged that:

• the victim was standing outside
• the suspect approached the victim from behind
• the suspect slashed the victim in the face with an edged weapon unprovoked
• the suspect fled the scene on foot

On Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 5:45 a.m., police recieved a call for a stabbing in Yonge Street and Adelaide Street area . 

It is alleged that: 

• the victim was asleep outside
• the suspect approached the victim
• the suspect slashed the victim in the face with an edged weapon unprovoked 
• the suspect then fled the area

On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, a man was arrested.

Matthew McLellan, 21, of Toronto will be charged with:

1. two counts of Aggravated Assault
2. two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Weapon

Court date is pending.

The Toronto Police Service is advising the public about an arrest made in a Criminal Harassment investigation. 

On Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 4:10 p.m., police received a call for a suspicious incident in the Lake Shore Boulevard East and Parliament Street area. 

It is reported that:

• the victim was approached by the suspect
• the suspect showed the vicitim an obscene image 
• the suspect then threatened the victim
• the suspect fled the scene 

On Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 12:50 p.m., police received a call for a suspicious incident in the Queen Street West and University Avenue area.

It is reported that:

• the victim was at work and approached the suspect
• the victim enagaged in conversation with suspect 
• the suspect showed the victim an obscene image 
• the suspect then threatened the victim
• the suspect fled the scene

On Sunday, December 11, 2022, Rezo Kopaliani, 27, of Toronto was arrested. He was charged with:

1. two counts of Criminal Harassment 
2. two counts of Uttering Threats 

He appeared in court for a Bail Hearing on Monday, December 12, 2022, at 10 a.m., at College Park Court, 444 Yonge Street, Room 507. He was remanded into custody.

The Toronto Police Service Hold Up Squad would like to make the public aware of an arrest made in a robbery investigation.

On Wednesday, November 30, 2022, officers responded to a robbery call in the Wilson Avenue and Dufferin Street area.

It is alleged that:

• a man entered a bank and made several unsuccessful attempts to withdraw cash from the Automated Teller Machine (ATM)
• the man then approached a teller and made a demand for cash while gesturing toward his waistband indicating that he had a firearm
• no firearm was observed during the incident
• the man obtained a quantity of cash before fleeing the bank

Several hours later on the same date, officers responded to a robbery call in the Yonge Street & Carlton Street area.

It is further alleged that:

• a man entered a pharmacy and selected an item for sale
• the man approached the checkout counter while holding his hand in his jacket pocket indicating that he had a firearm
• no firearm was observed during the incident
• the man made a demand for cash but the employee was unable to open the register
• another employee approached and the man fled the store empty-handed

On Thursday, December 1, 2022, officers observed a man matching the suspect description, commenced an investigation, and took him into custody.

It is further alleged that:

• at the time of arrest, officers recovered the bank card used at the ATM during the bank robbery

Zakerie Ali, 27, of Toronto, was charged with:

1. two counts of Robbery.

He was scheduled to appear in court for a Bail Hearing on Friday, December 2, 2022, at 10:00 am at the College Park Court, 444 Yonge Street, Room 507.
