The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in a Theft of Vehicle investigation.

On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at approximately 1:40 a.m., police responded to a call for a theft of vehicle in the Yonge Street and Dundas Street East area.

It is alleged that:

  • the victim briefly exited their vehicle while it was still running
  • the suspect jumped into the vehicle and drove away
  • the victim got into another vehicle and followed his vehicle to the South Drive and Sherbourne Street area
  • a collision occurred with several vehicles including the stolen vehicle
  • two properties on South Drive were damaged

Police arrived on scene and a man was arrested. He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries received during the collision.

Malik Young, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with:

  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
  • Fail to Comply Undertaking

He was scheduled to appear in court at Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 10 a.m., in room 106.
