Man Arrested in Retail Robbery Investigation,
Carlton Street and Church Street area

The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in a Retail Robbery investigation.

Between Friday, October 11 and Friday, October 25, 2024, police responded to four calls in the Carlton Street and Church Street area.

It is alleged that:

  • in four separate incidents, the lone male suspect entered retail stores wearing a mask to disguise his identity
  • he produced a handgun and made demands for cash
  • in first two incidents, he took a quantity of cash before fleeing the store
  • in the third incident, he took a set of AirPods
  • in the final incident, he fled the store empty-handed

Uniform officers from 51 Division quickly responded to the last robbery where they located the suspect and took him into custody after a short foot pursuit.

It is further alleged that:

  • at the time of the arrest, officers recovered a replica handgun

Jad Tannous, 32, of Toronto, was charged with:

  1. four counts of Robbery with Firearm
  2. four counts of Disguise with Intent
  3. four counts of Use Imitation Firearm During Commission of Indictable Offence

He was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, in room 106.

On Saturday, October 26, 2024, police received a call reporting a Robbery that occurred on Friday, October 25, 2024, in the Carlton Street and Sherbourne Street area.

It is alleged that:

  • a lone male suspect entered a retail store wearing a mask to disguise his identity
  • he produced a handgun and made demands for cash
  • he took a quantity of cash before fleeing the store

Members of the Hold Up Squad commenced an investigation and determined the same suspect, Jad Tannous, committed this robbery. Further charges are expected to follow.
