The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of arrests made at a demonstration.

Toronto Police continue to attend demonstrations, and to preserve people's right to protest while also enforcing the law. Police have cautioned demonstration organizers (and drivers specifically) about not having people riding in the bed of the truck or on the attached trailer while the truck is in motion - as stipulated in the Highway Traffic Act. Police have been clear that this stipulation will be in effect at all demonstrations. 

On Saturday, March 30, 2024, officers were conducting crowd management at a demonstration in the Gerrard Street and Parliament Street area.

It is alleged that:

• a man was operating a truck with occupants in the bed of the truck while it was in motion

The driver was charged with:

1. Stunt Driving under the Highway Traffic Act

The vehicle has been impounded for 14 days and his driver's licence suspended for 30 days.

While police were seizing the above mentioned truck, demonstrators became aggressive and assaultive towards officers.

It is alleged that:

• a woman threw horse manure at officers

Assia Rami, 24, has been charged with:

1. Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon

She will attend the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 11 a.m. in room 203.

It is further alleged that:

• a woman intentionally used a flagpole to "spear" at an officer

Celeste Xiaoying Furlotte-Bois, 27, of Toronto, has been charged with:

1. Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon

She will attend the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. in room 203.

It is further alleged that:

• while officers were lawfully effecting an arrest, several people interfered with the arrest 
• four males were arrested for Breach of the Peace 
• three were later released unconditionally
• one was wanted on a warrant for an unrelated matter and was turned over to the OPP

This investigation is ongoing. Just because someone is not issued a charge at the time does not mean they cannot be charged at a later date. Police will continue to investigate.
