On Saturday, November 25, 2023, the City of Toronto will be hosting its 57th Annual Cavalcade of Lights at Nathan Phillips Square.
The event starts at 3:00 p.m. and ends at 11:00 p.m.
Road closures for both vehicles and pedestrian traffic will be in effect from 1:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. as follows:
Parking will be suspended the full length of Chestnut Street and Armoury Street.
A number of TTC routes will be diverted during this time.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and consider alternate routes.

The 119th annual Santa Claus Parade is taking place on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 12:30 p.m.
Motorists travelling in the area can expect significant delays and should attempt to avoid the parade route.
The duration of the parade is approximately 2.5 hours and will take place regardless of weather conditions. Roads are expected to be reopened by 6 p.m.

The towing of vehicles parked along the parade route will commence at 6 a.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023. Vehicles will be relocated to a nearby street at no charge to the drivers/owners. Drivers may flag down an officer to find out the location of their vehicle or call 416-808-1400 if they were parked west of Spadina Avenue, 416-808-5100 if they were parked east of Yonge Street, and 416-808-5200 if they were parked in between.
At 11:45 a.m., the Holly Jolly 5 km Fun Run will take place on the parade route.
For the safety of runners and parade attendees, spectators are asked to ensure that children and all personal belongings are off the roadway by 11:30 a.m.
The parade itself will start at 12:30 p.m., and will proceed along the following route:
Spectators attending the parade are advised to use public transportation. Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will be providing full subway and streetcar service. Please refer to the TTC website for information regarding service adjustments for bus routes impacted by the parade.

On Thursday, November 16, 2023, at 9 a.m., at the Canadian Tire store located at 1901 Eglinton Avenue East, the Toronto Police Service in partnership with Canadian Tire and other community agencies, will be holding its annual Toys for Kids donation kick-off.
For the next five weeks, this Canadian Tire location will be accepting Canadian Tire money and cash donations that will be used to buy gifts to be distributed via local social service agencies across the Greater Toronto Area. Some of the agencies taking part include: UMOVE (United Mothers Opposing Violence Everywhere), Massey Center for Women, and New Visions Toronto.
Donations to Toys for Kids can be in the form of Canadian Tire coupons, cash or purchasing a cardboard bear for a Toonie in support of the event, which is displayed at Canadian Tire with your name on it.
Canadian Tire franchise owner, Steven McCarthy, who has supported this initiative for the past 3 years, will be present with members of his staff. The Canadian Tire team will match the donations collected.
A number of TPS members and Senior Officers will be on-hand to support this event, as they have for the past 25 years. Each year the initiative raises approximately $10,000.
Members of the public are invited to drop by for refreshments.

On Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at approximately 4:25 a.m., police responded to a call for an Assault in the Front Street and Yonge Street area.

The suspect is described as male, white, 20-30 years old, 6'0" tall, wearing a black coat and black pants.

If a person is charged and convicted of the offence, the Judge will take into consideration hate as an aggravating factor when imposing a sentence.
Wilful promotion of hatred and advocating genocide are hate propaganda (hate speech) offences which require the Attorney General’s consent. Members of the Hate Crime Unit will provide assistance and support to the divisional investigators in seeking the Attorney General’s consent to lay these charges, if applicable. These charges are often laid at a later time.

On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 12:55 p.m., police investigated an assault in the Yonge Street and Wellesley Street area.

After consultation with the Service's specialized Hate Crime Unit, the investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.
The youths will attend court at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Wednesday, January 10, 2023, in room 604.

Today, the Toronto Police Service is launching a new option for the public to provide information to police about hate-motivated graffiti in their neighbourhoods. The web form, available on the Service’s website, provides an additional avenue for the public to alert police to hate-motivated graffiti, so officers can attend, gather evidence and arrange for the hate-motivated graffiti to be removed as quickly as possible.
As noted by Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw, there has been a noted rise in hate crime incidents since October 7, 2023. The number of reports involving hate-motivated graffiti, which falls under the offence of ‘mischief’, has seen the largest increase, and like all hate-motivated crime, victimizes entire communities.
This reporting mechanism will be monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
To address the rise in reported hate crimes, the Service has also increased the size of its specialized Hate Crime Unit from a dedicated team of six officers to a team of 20 investigators and eight District Special Constables.
“A hate-motivated crime not only victimizes individuals, but also entire communities,” said Chief Demkiw. “We urge Torontonians to please report these incidents to police so we can investigate and hold people to account who commit these crimes. For hate-motivated graffiti, this new web form provides Toronto residents with another convenient way to do that.”
