With more than 80 scheduled events planned across the city this weekend, including several major events and concerts at large venues, the Toronto Police Service will have an increased visible presence in the downtown core and around major venues and events to ensure public safety and facilitate the safe movement of traffic.

Thousands of people will be attending events across the city and the Service is expecting increased activity in the evening and early-morning hours at restaurants and nightclubs. The Service will have dedicated resources in the downtown core, the entertainment district, Ontario Place and the waterfront area to maintain public safety and to mitigate traffic flow challenges.

The Rolling Loud international music festival is taking place at Ontario Place from September 9 – 11, during daytime and evening hours.

  • Three eastbound lanes on Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed during this time between British Columbia Road and Strachan Avenue. Traffic will be diverted off Lake Shore Boulevard on to British Columbia Road.
  • Lake Shore Boulevard westbound will be reduced from three lanes to two between Strachan Avenue to British Columbia Road.
  • The curb lane will be allocated for pedestrians/cyclists and they are reminded to please obey the rules of the road.
  • There will be increased traffic and pedestrian congestion in and around Ontario Place, including on walking and biking paths. Please plan your visit accordingly.

The Toronto International Film Festival will be taking place at multiple venues downtown.

  • King Street West  will be closed to traffic from York Street to Spadina Avenue
  • Richmond Street will be closed from John Street to Widmer Street.
  • Expect increased pedestrian activity along King Street West throughout the weekend.

Concerts are also being held over the weekend at Scotiabank Arena and many people will be participating in several scheduled charity walks and runs. There are also several demonstrations taking place across Toronto this weekend.

It is recommended that people make themselves aware of alternate routes before heading downtown to try to avoid potential delays. The Service recommends the public consider using public transit when possible. Visit www.ttc.ca or www.metrolinx.com for more information.

As always, residents and visitors are encouraged to approach officers with any concerns and to follow our Twitter accounts for the latest information: @TPSOperations & @TorontoPolice.
