On Thursday, September 1, 2022, at 10 a.m., at 2245 Islington Avenue, Toronto Crime Stoppers, in partnership with the Toronto Police Service, Toronto Police Services Board and the City of Toronto launched a new Community Signage Pilot Project designed to enhance public safety.

Toronto Crime Stoppers Chair, Sean Sportun hosted the event, with remarks by Toronto Police Chief - James Ramer, Superintendent - LeeAnn Papizewski and Toronto Crime Stoppers Chair -Sean Sportun.

Public safety remains paramount to ensuring all members of our communities can enjoy and feel safe within their surroundings while engaging in activities that pertain to all aspects of life.

The objective of the initiative is to expand situational awareness within the community on how to report suspicious activity and incidents of criminality that affect our neighbourhoods.  The signage will provide a constant reminder for citizens that they have a conduit to report criminality anonymously through Crime Stoppers, while also sending a message to those breaking the law that the community is taking notice.

“Toronto Crime Stoppers remains resilient in our efforts to combat crime issues in our city while looking at ways to enhance the safety for our citizens”, said Sean Sportun, Chair of Toronto Crime Stoppers.  He also states, “The installation of these signs serves as a reminder for members of the community to report anonymously into Crime Stoppers and by doing so, they can feel a sense of empowerment for a crime free Toronto."

Chief James Ramer and members of Toronto Police Service Command was in attendance, along with members of the Toronto Police Service, Toronto Crime Stoppers and community supporters.
