"Our outdoor pools, wading pools, splash pads and beaches are the coolest places," said Councillor James Pasternak (Ward 10 York Centre), Chair of the Community Development and Recreation Committee. "Last year over 1 million people took advantage of our swimming programs at our outdoor pools and I encourage all Torontonians to enjoy the many options they have to cool off this summer."

Supervision or swimming ability requirements are in place for children under 10 years of age. Drop-in swimming is free for all ages.

Eight of Toronto's 11 swimming beaches have earned Blue Flags, making them a great choice for family fun and cooling down during the hot summer.

The Blue Flag program is a highly respected and internationally recognized eco-label for swimming beaches and identifies beaches that meet the highest criteria for excellence. More information about Blue Flags is available at: http://www.toronto.ca/health/swimsafe/beaches_blueflag.htm

Splash pads are open across the city and will remain open until September 20. Splash pads operate daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are activated through push-button features.  Caregivers are reminded to supervise their children at these unsupervised water play areas.

On June 26, over 100 supervised wading pools will open for the summer. Wading pools operate with varying schedules until September 6, weather permitting. Wading pools are shallow water areas intended for children and are located in many City parks. Caregivers are reminded to supervise children at all times in these areas.
