Waterfront Marathon to result in Toronto road closures this weekend

One special event in Toronto this weekend, the Waterfront Marathon, will involve road closures. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come out and enjoy this event. Businesses in the areas affected by the event are open to pedestrian traffic but some roads will be closed to vehicles.

Festivals and other special events are important to the city, injecting hundreds of millions of dollars annually into Toronto’s economy, and they are enjoyed each year by local residents.

In addition to road closures related to special events, a significant amount of road work is taking place in the city. People are encouraged to take public transit as a greener, faster and more affordable way of getting to their destinations.

Those who need to drive in the general vicinity of special events should allow extra time to get to and from their destination. A more complete list of road work is available at http://www.toronto.ca/torontostreets/.

Waterfront Marathon – Saturday and Sunday closures 

• Bay Street from Queen Street to Dundas Street will be closed from Saturday, October 18 at noon to Sunday, October 19 at 7 p.m. to accommodate the start and finish-line activities for the race. 

• A series of full road closures for the race will take place on Sunday, October 19 from 5 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. 

These closures will occur in the area bounded by Bloor Street West in the north, Victoria Park Avenue in the east, Lake Ontario in the south and Windermere Avenue in the west. Other roads in this area will be closed periodically to accommodate the event.

Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Road closures

On Sunday, October 19, 2014, the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, half-marathon, and 5-kilometre Walk/Run will be held in the Toronto.

The marathon and half-marathon will start at 8:45 a.m., while the 5K race will begin at 8 a.m.

The event organizers are anticipating 20,000 participants for all combined events.

Various road closures will be in effect for this event, starting Saturday, October 18, 2014, to accommodate the pre-event set-up for the start line and finish line areas.

Finish Line Area Road Closure: - from Saturday at noon until Sunday at 7 p.m.
- full road closures of Bay Street from Queen Street West to Dundas Street West (on Saturday & Sunday)
- Bay Street from Dundas Street West to Lake Shore Boulevard (on Sunday only)
- smaller side streets of Hagerman Street, Elizabeth Street, Albert Street, and James Street (on Saturday & Sunday)

Start Line Area Road Closure: - on Sunday at 4 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- full road closures of University Avenue from Dundas Street West to Front Street West
- plus smaller side streets of Armoury Street and Chestnut Street

Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed on Sunday (race day). The closures will begin at 5 a.m., from the Don Roadway to Windermere Avenue, and last until 12:30 p.m.

The reminder of the route along Lake Shore Boulevard, from Coxwell Avenue to Woodbine Avenue., will close from 8 a.m., until 2:30 p.m.

The following streets will be closed from 8 a.m., until 3 p.m.:- Queen Street East, from Woodbine Avenue to Beech Avenue
- Eastern Avenue, from Kingston Road to Jarvis Streer

The following streets will be closed from 8 a.m., until 11 a.m.:- University Avenue, from Dundas Street West to College Street
- Queen's Park Crescent (west/east), from College Street to Bloor Street West
- Bloor Street West, from Bay Street to Bathurst Street
- Bathurst Street, from Bloor Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West

The following streets will be closed from 7 a.m., until 2:30 a.m.:- Queen's Quay, from Bay Street to Parliament Street
