News Release:  June 23, 2014

Completion of paving work on Lake Shore Boulevard West

The road paving work on Lake Shore Boulevard West from Yonge Street to Windermere Avenue has been completed ahead of schedule.

The paving portion of the work was originally expected to be completed in mid-July, however, as a result of good weather and efforts by the City and the contractor to accelerate the project, the work was substantially completed on Saturday, June 21.

"This investment will improve the quality of Lake Shore Boulevard," said Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong (Ward 34, Don Valley East), Chair of the City's Public Works and Infrastructure Committee. "We would like to thank the public for their patience as we continue to make these important improvements to the city's infrastructure."

The remaining work, the installation of loop detectors in the new pavement, is scheduled to be completed in the next few weeks and will be done with limited overnight lane closures. The loops provide information to the City's traffic signal system, which enables the City to automatically adjust traffic-signal timing in response to conditions on Lake Shore Boulevard and the Gardiner Expressway.

This construction project is one part of the City's comprehensive and co-ordinated transportation strategy to rehabilitate its roads, bridges and watermains for current and future needs.
