 The Toronto Police Service is making the public aware of an arrest made in a theft of motor vehicle investigation.

It is alleged that:

• on Tuesday, July 19, 2023, an unknown suspect attended the King Street East and River Street area 
• the suspect entered a vehicle not belonging to them, started the ignition and drove away from the area
• the suspect then drove the vehicle to a parking lot and met the accused
• the accused took possession of the vehicle and moved it to another location

Investigators were able to identify the accused who was involved in the theft. The vehicle has since been recovered.

A second suspect remains outstanding. 

On Thursday, July 13, 2023, a Criminal Code Search Warrant was executed at a residential address and the accused was located inside.

Alexandra Sandy Kottaras, 47, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
2. Mischief – Damage Property Over $5000

She was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Friday, July 14, at 10 a.m., in room 106.

4. two counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order
5. Theft Under $5000
6. Mischief Over $5000
7. Trespass at Night
8. Possess Break-In Instruments
9. Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
10. four counts of Possess Identity Document
11. Possess Proceeds of Crime Under $5000
12. Fail to Subsequently Attend Court

She was scheduled to appear in court at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 10 a.m., in room 102.

Police believe there may be more victims.  An image has been released.

Today, Toronto Crime Stoppers was joined by Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw, the Toronto Police Services Board, the Toronto Police Integrated Gun & Gang Task Force, the Toronto Police Association and the Bolo Program for the launch of an Illegal Firearms Awareness Campaign.

The objective of the campaign is to raise awareness about the deadly impact of illegal firearms on communities, and to deter further criminality and save lives by educating and encouraging citizens on how to anonymously report information about illegal firearms.

The Toronto Police Service would like to update the public on a Homicide investigation.

On Monday, March 6, 2023, at approximately 12:53 a.m., police received a call for a Stabbing in the Sherbourne Street/Queen Street East area.

It is reported that:

• an altercation took place between a man and a group of four men
• the altercation escalated, and resulted in the man getting stabbed
• the group of men then fled eastbound on Queen Street East from Sherbourne Street
• The man was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries but was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The victim was identified as Jeffrey Munro, 55, of Toronto.

On Monday, July 17, 2023, with the assistance of Surrey B.C. RCMP, the final outstanding suspect was arrested.

Hussein Ibrohim, 28, of Toronto, was arrested and charged with:

1. Second Degree Murder

He was transported back to Toronto, and remotely attended the Toronto Regional Bail Court, 2201 Finch Avenue West, on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 10 a.m., where he was remanded into custody

On Sunday, June 24, 2023, at approximately 2 a.m., police responded to a call for a robbery in the Sherbourne Street and Earl Street area.

It is reported that:

• the victim was riding their bicycle 
• the suspect pushed the victim off their bicycle
• the suspect assaulted the victim with an unknown weapon and took the bicycle
• the suspect left in an unknown direction

The man is described as white, 35-40 years old, with a medium build. He was wearing a white t-shirt.

The Honda Indy is taking place in Toronto from Friday, July 14, to Sunday, July 16, 2023. This event will feature numerous Indy Car Races, as well as several other on-site attractions.

Road closures for this event will begin on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 12 p.m.:

• Southbound Strachan Avenue will be closed from Fleet Street to Lake Shore Boulevard West

On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at 8 p.m.:

• Lake Shore Boulevard West will be closed from Strachan Avenue to British Columbia Drive

The roads will remained closed all weekend and are scheduled to reopen on Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 11 p.m.

Due to the extensive road closures, motorists can expect significant delays in the area and are strongly encouraged to plan alternate routes. Anyone attending the Honda Indy should take public transit, and both the TTC and GO Transit will provide increased service to Exhibition Place.

To ensure the safety of spectators and competitors, all persons are reminded that operating Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV / "drones") in and around the premise of Exhibition Place during Honda Indy race weekend is strictly prohibited. Persons found operating an UAV in the area will be in direct violation of restricted airspace and will be subject to investigation and/or prosecution.

The Toronto Police Service is updating the public on a homicide cold case investigation.

On Tuesday, April 16, 1991, at approximately 3:04 a.m., police responded to a 911 call for an unknown trouble at 149 Dundas Street East. Upon arrival, police located a man with multiple stab wounds. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. 

The victim was identified as Herbert Boone, 43, of Toronto. 

The Toronto Police Homicide Cold Case Unit has positively identified the person responsible for the murder through further DNA testing of evidence.

Kevin Walsh, of Toronto, was 46 at the time of the incident. He died in 2007.

If he was alive today, Kevin Walsh would be arrested and charged with:

• Second Degree Murder

 The Toronto Police Service would like to warn the public of suspected overdoses that appear to be caused by a suspicious drug.

On Friday, June 30, 2023, and Saturday, July 1, 2023, the Toronto Police responded to numerous overdose calls occurring in the Strachan Avenue and Lake Shore Boulevard West area.

It is reported that:

• at least five people consumed a quantity of an unknown narcotic suspected to be an opioid
• they all suffered adverse effects
• one person has died

As the drug was consumed before police arrived, there is no description of it at this time.

Investigators are concerned there may be more of this suspicious drug sold or given to others.

The Toronto Police Service wants to remind people that if they are taking drugs to use extreme caution and do not take them alone.

If anyone suffers serious illness after consuming a narcotic, they should attend a hospital emergency room, call 9-1-1, or go to a walk-in clinic immediately for treatment. For a referral to a substance use treatment facility, visit Connex Ontario or call 211 or the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health can be reached at 1-800-463-2338.
