Arrest made in Attempt Murder investigation, Oak Street and Regent Street area, One man and one young person arrested, Both face multiple charges

The Toronto Police would like to advise the public of two arrests made in an Attempt Murder investigation.

On Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 10:10 p.m., Police responded to the sound of gunshots in the area of Oak Street and Regent Street.

It is alleged that:

- two males, both armed with firearms, fired several shots at a moving vehicle which contained three occupants

- several shots struck the vehicle, however none of the vehicle's occupants were injured

- both male suspects fled the area on foot

- officers from 51 Division commenced an investigation and identified both male shooters

On Thursday, July 18, 2019, Mohammad Shafiq, 18, and a Young Person were arrested.

Both have been charged with:

1. Three counts of Attempt Murder
2. Use firearm in the commission of an offence
3. Point Firearm
4. Discharge with Intent
5. Reckless Discharge of a Firearm
6. Unauthorized possession of a firearm
7. Careless Use and Storage of a Firearm
8. Possession of a restricted Firearm
9. Possession of a Firearm Knowing Its Possession is Unauthorized

They were scheduled to appear in court on Friday, July 19, 2019, at College Park Courts, at 10:00 a.m.

Two firearms were located at the time of the arrest.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of a series of distraction thefts that are taking place throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

It is reported that:

- a group of men and women are travelling around in a vehicle

- in groups of three or more, they approach people and advise they are looking for a hospital

- they ask for directions, gas money or for the blessing of a loved one who is sick

- the group then place a piece of fake jewelry around the person's neck in gratitude

- at this time, they then remove the person's personal jewelry

- usually the woman make the initial contact, while the man waits in a vehicle nearby. The woman become very hands-on and aggressive.

The women are described as having olive complexions and wearing head scarves.
The have been targeting elderly women and use vehicles with both Ontario and Quebec license plates.

The public is asked to be aware of any suspicious vehicles or suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods.

Police Seek Assistance Identifying Man Wanted in Prowl by Night investigation, Front Street East and Cherry Street

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying a man wanted in a Prowl by Night investigation.

It is reported that:

- on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a woman was in her home in the area of Front Street East and Cherry Street

- an unknown man was observed peering through partially closed apartment blinds of ground floor residences, including the woman's

- the woman had a companion join her and the pair stepped outside and confronted the man, at which point he fled on foot.

The man is described as being in his early to mid 40s, 5’5”, with a medium build, balding, with dark eyes, and was unshaven. He was last seen wearing beige shorts, black shoes and a blue t-shirt.

A photo of the wanted man and a composite sketch have been released.

The Toronto Police Service is requesting the public's assistance identifying a man who was located in the King Street West and Dufferin Street area.

On Monday, July 15, 2019, at approximately 7:15 am, Toronto Paramedics responded to a call for a man with a medical emergency inside of a restaurant. The man was then taken to hospital where he remains.

The identification he had in his possession shows him to be 61-year-old Stephen Andrejewski.

We are seeking any information regarding the man's family and or friends.

A photograph from his identification dated in 2005 has been released.

The City of Toronto and the Toronto Police Service hear from residents who are concerned by the noise from vehicles that have been modified, altered or used in a way that is excessively noisy.

Loud and excessive noise can be characterized as noise that is a nuisance to the general public, taking into consideration the nature, location, time and proximity of the source to residents and members of the public. Examples may include a loud auto stereo or car, truck or motorcycle exhaust emitting sound to the extent it disturbs patrons at a restaurant, nearby residents or other motorists on the roadway.

Poor and dangerous driving, such as racing, stunt driving and squealing tires, is also associated with noise and this behaviour can put pedestrians and other vulnerable road users at risk.

Provincial laws and City of Toronto by-laws are in place to protect quality of life and permit enforcement against unnecessary:

• Vehicle horns and alarms (Highway Traffic Act, section 75)
• Loud mufflers/exhausts (Highway Traffic Act, section 75)
• Engine revving, squealing tires (Highway Traffic Act, section 172)
• General noise (Municipal Code – 591)

Officers from the City of Toronto Municipal Licensing and the Toronto Police Service Motor Squad of Traffic Services will be present to begin an awareness and enforcement action on Monday, July 15, 2019, at 8 p.m., at 34 Yorkville Avenue, between Bay Street and Yonge Street.

Mayor John Tory will be in attendance to observe this action and speak to reporters.

Superintendent Scott Baptist, of Toronto Police Service Traffic Services, will be present to answer questions relating to enforcement.

On July 1, 2019, at 10:10 p.m., Toronto paramedics responded to a call for an unconscious man at a restaurant in the area of Queen Street East and Sherbourne Street.

They transported the man to hospital with injuries, which did not appear to be life threatening at the time. The following morning, on July 2, 2019, at 9:04 a.m., medical staff from the hospital called police, advising that the man was on life support and not expected to survive.

Investigators from 51 Division commenced an investigation, as a result, later on the same day, Patrick Gayle, 46, of Toronto, was arrested.

He was charged with:

1) Aggravated Assault

On July 6, 2019, the victim, Dwain Frederick Adams, 61, of Toronto, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased in hospital. An autopsy was conducted and the Homicide investigators were notified of the results.

On July 17, 2019, Patrick Anthony Gayle, 46, is scheduled to appear in court at College Park Courts, at 10:00 a.m., courtroom 504.

His charges will be upgraded from Aggravated Assault to Manslaughter.
