On Sunday, August 19, 2018, at approximately 2 a.m., police responded to a shooting call on the 4th floor of a residential building in the Adelaide Street East and Parliament Street area.

Responding officers located a man with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Jesse Graham-Richter, 22, of Toronto.

The male suspect is described as black, light skin, approximately 5’10”, approximately 20, wearing black jacket, dark pants.

Public Safety Alert, Distraction Thefts/Robberies targeting seniors in 31 Division

The Toronto Police Service is warning the public to be vigilant following a series of Distraction Thefts targeting seniors. Some of the Distraction Thefts have escalated into Robberies.

It has been reported that:

- these have occurred within the boundaries of 31 Division: Steeles Avenue to the north, Finch Avenue to the south, Highway 400 to the west and Sentinel Road to the east

- an unknown driver and two women, in a car, have been approaching seniors on the street in residential neighbourhoods

- the two women will then place jewellery on the victim, removing the victim’s existing jewellery in the process or one woman will embrace the victim, removing their jewellery in the process

- the victim usually realizes, after the fact, that their jewellery has been stolen

- if the victim realizes their jewellery is being removed, the suspects will resort to violence, pushing the victims to the ground

- there is no consistent suspect description other than two women and a driver of a silver/grey vehicle

Similar Distraction Thefts have been taking place across the Toronto area.

The public is reminded to be vigilant for these suspects in their neighbourhoods and to report any suspicious behaviour to police.

On Sunday, August 19, 2018, from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., the City of Toronto will host Open Streets Toronto.

The following road closures will take place between 8:30 a.m., and 3 p.m:

-Bloor Street, between Montrose Avenue and Sherbourne Avenue,

-Yonge Street, between Davenport Avenue and Queen Street,

Vehicles will only be able to cross the route at the following designated crossing points:

- Bloor Street West at Christie Street/Grace Street
- Bloor Street West at Bathurst Street
- Bloor Street West at Spadina Avenue
- Bloor Street West at Avenue Road
- Bloor Street West at Bay Street
- Bloor Street East at Church Street
- Bloor Street East at Ted Rogers Way
- Bloor Street East at Sherbourne Street
- Yonge Street at Wellesley Street
- Yonge Street at College Street
- Yonge Street at Gerrard Street
- Yonge Street at Dundas Street
- Yonge Street at Shuter Street
- Yonge Street at Queen Street

Motorists can expect significant delays in the area and are advised to plan alternate routes, where possible. It is strongly recommended that people attending Open Streets take the TTC.

The Toronto Police Service would like to make the public aware of an arrest made and a firearm seized in a shooting investigation.

On Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers from 51 Division responded to multiple radio calls for the sound of gunshots, in the Wellesley Street East and Ontario Street area.

It is alleged:

- officers arrived on scene and located an unconscious man, suffering from a gunshot wound to his neck

- officers performed life-saving first aid on the man and waited for Toronto Paramedics to arrive

- as officers arrived to assist, they were provided information from the public

- as a result, officers located a man, who fled on foot from police

- after a brief foot pursuit, a man was arrested, and a firearm was recovered

- a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with ammunition was seized

Keeron Tashmel Creary, 26, of Toronto was arrested and charged with:

1. Attempted Murder
2. Point a Firearm
3. Discharge Firearm with Intent
4. Possession of Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
5. Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
6. Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
7. Point a Firearm
8. Unsafe Storage of Ammunition
9. Obstruct Peace Officer
10.Possession of Firearm Contrary to Order

He is to appear in court at Old City Hall, on Wednesday, August, 15, 2018, at 10 am.

The Toronto Police Service is warning the public about a batch of dangerous narcotics being sold in the downtown core.

Since Thursday, August 2, 2018, police officers have been called to a number of overdoses, seven of which have proven fatal.

It is believed that the drugs responsible are a deadly batch of fentanyl or carfentanil. Particularly dangerous, carfentanyl is 100 times more potent than fentanyl.

If fentanyl or carfentanil users encounter serious physical illness, they are advised to attend a hospital emergency room or a walk-in clinic immediately for treatment. For a referral to a substance-abuse treatment facility, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health can be reached at 1-800-463-2338.
